She is Alice Walker. (听Alice Walker演讲音频 1分钟)There are mainly 4 parts of my PPT.Alice Walker was born on February 9, 1944. She is an internationally celebrated writer, poet and activist whose books include seven novels, four collections of short stories, four children’s books, and volumes of essays and poetry. She won the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction in 1983 and the National Book Award.Walker was born in Eatonton, Georgia. (1)She is an African American. (2)She is the eighth and last child of her family. (3)Her father, who was, in her words, wonderful at math but a terrible farmer, earned only $300 a year from sharecropping and dairy farming. (4)Her mother added to the family income by working as a maid. She worked 11 hours a day for USD $17 per week to help pay for Alice to attend college. (5)When Alice Walker was 8 years old (in 1952), she lost sight of one eye when one of her older brothers shot her with a BB gun by accident. After the accident, she became self-conscious and painfully shy. She felt like an outcast and turned for comfort to reading and to writing poetry. (6~7)She went on to become valedictorian of her local high school. And that achievement, coupled with a rehabilitation scholarship made it possible for her to go to Spelman, a college for black women in Atlanta, Georgia. (8)After spending two years at Spelman, she later moved to Sarah Lawrence College near New York City, and during her junior year traveled to Africa as an exchange student. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in 1965. (9)Walker became interested in the U.S. civil rights movement.
