Step Ⅰ Revision and Lead-in
Check the homework. Then talk about social rules.
T: You have different sorts of relationships with different people that you know. You have different sorts of relationships with the people you live with, your family, your friends, workers and people you don’t know well. Then we have different social rules. This class we will read two passages about small talk and social rules in the UK from which we can learn more about social skills. Now please open your books at page 9. First look at the title “The AAA”. Without reading the passage, can you guess the meaning? Or what do the three As stand for?
Step Ⅱ Reading
Task 1: Allow the students several minutes to read the passage fast. And then answer the following questions
Show the following.
1. What does the AAA mean?
2. How does the AAA model work?
3. Is the AAA model a good idea while making small talk with someone you don’t know in China?
Sample answers:
