Methods Mice were fed water extract to give Coltsfoot Flower, alcohol extract, total alkaloids, non-alkaloids, g’s alkali and intraperitoneal injection of Senecio Senecio g’s base, a continuous 7 d after administration of measured body weight change, liver index, serum GOT, GPT, TBIL content, and make the liver histopathological examination. Results alkaloids group g’s oral and intraperitoneal injection of Senecio base was significantly inhibited weight gain in mice, serum biochemical markers increased significantly in the two groups g’s Senecio alkali liver index increased significantly. Biopsy showed that water extract group and the control group, no difference in morphology; alkaloids group morphological changes in liver cells, cells showed mild edema, seen spotty necrosis of liver cells, hepatic lobule and portal area was no infiltration of inflammatory cells; g’s Senecio base groups in varying degrees of liver cells were cell swelling, we can see point-like liver cells, and piecemeal necrosis, hepatic lobule and portal area shows a small amount of inflammatory cell infiltration. Conclusion In the given doses of water extracts from non-liver toxicity, drug safety; total alkaloids, Senecio base g’s obvious liver toxicity.
