 PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 9 Metformin in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome 【Abstract】 Objective: To determine and compare metformin in treating polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women before and after 3 months of clinical, biochemical, hormonal and ultrasound changes. Methods: 50 patients PCSO women, 25 unmarried and 25 married infertility, to participate in this prospective clinical study. The basis of inspections, including pre-treatment body mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR), Ferriman Gallwey hirsutism score, menstrual type, fasting insulin levels, lipids, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), serum gonadotropin, estradiol (E2 ), testosterone, androstenedione, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), were treated with metformin 1000mg cure after 6 months, repeat the above inspection items. Results: 50 women in the 41 completed treatment, BMI, WHR, menstrual periodicity (80.5%), ovulation rate (66%) and pregnancy rate (28%) significantly improved. Statistical analysis shows luteinizing hormone LH / FSH ratio significantly decreased and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels rise, increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol levels decreased, ovarian volume, ovarian stromal thickness and the number of follicles to improve, hirsutism, acne the other sex steroid hormone and lipid levels have not changed. Conclusion: The 6 months of metformin treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome, women can improve women’s menstrual cycles and fertility capacity.
