Oxidative stress in patients with acute leukemia and the relationship between depression
Authors: Zhou Fu-ling, Zhang Gang, Su-Xiang, Meng Xin, Tian Wei
Abstract This study investigated the status of oxidative stress in patients with acute leukemia and the relationship between depressive mood. Used self-rating depression scale (self-rating depression scale, SDS) and other questionnaire, 92 cases of acute leukemia in patients with newly diagnosed depressive symptoms to be assessed. Detection of plasma total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) levels. Using real-time quantitative PCR detection of DNA repair genes were 8 - hydroxyguanine glycosylase (human 8-hydroxyguanine glycosylase, hOGG1) expression. The results prove that antioxidant enzymes in patients with acute leukemia, a reduced ability to 47.83 percent the incidence of depression, depression in patients with T-AOC and SOD levels were significantly lower, ROS, NO and MDA levels were significantly elevated, DNA repair gene hOGG1 mRNA in expression was elevated. Duration in patients with acute leukemia, hOGG1 levels were positively correlated with the severity of depression, T-AOC level was negatively correlated with the severity of depression. Conclusion: The existence of oxidative damage in patients with acute leukemia, patients with depressive symptoms in a further weakening of antioxidant enzymes in defense capabilities, suggesting that oxidative stress and depressive symptoms of acute leukemia are closely related to the occurrence and development.
