METHODS: Rabbit with acupuncture degenerative disc model, MRI identified model, HE staining nucleus pulposus cells, TUNEL staining nucleus pulposus cells marked apoptosis, and by laser scanning confocal microscope counting the proportion of apoptotic cells, RT PCR detection of apoptosis-related Bax and Bcl 2 gene expression. Results: The rabbit model successfully degeneration and degeneration group nucleus cell count lower than the normal group, the proportion of apoptotic cells than the normal group, degeneration group of anti-apoptotic gene expression than the normal group, higher than normal apoptosis gene. Conclusion: Apoptosis in the presence of intervertebral disc degeneration model and effect important role. Methods: Rabbit models of degenerated intevertebral disc were established by anulus puncturing, which were then identificated by MRI. Nucleus pulposus cells were counted using HE staining ; the proportion of apoptotic cells was counted by laser scanning confocal microscope with TUNEL staining marked apoptosis of nucleus pulposus cells; and RT PCR were used in detection of Bax and Bcl 2 levels as apoptosis related genes. Results: Compared with the normal group, the amounts of nucleus pulposus cells were lower and the proportion of apoptotic cells was higher in degeneration group. The level of anti apoptosis gene expression was lower and the level of apoptosis gene expression was higher in degeneration group than those in normal group.Conclusion: The
