THE 2015 OREGON CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE 波特兰州立大学孔子学院 2015 (the 8th) OREGON CHINESE TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRANM THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERISTY April 11; May 9; June 15-19; June 24– 26, 2015 This training program is designed to solve the problem of a shortage of qualified and professionally trained Chinese language teachers in Oregon and southwest Washington State. Through lectures by experts in the field of CFL, group discussions, teaching demonstrations and a variety of language teaching related activities, pre-service and in-service Chinese language teachers will gain professional knowledge on teaching Chinese language to both immersion and non-immersion Chinese programs at schools in the US. The participants are expected through the training to obtain core knowledge and skills required for teaching Chinese in the context of emerging national standards in teaching Chinese as a foreign language (CFL), principles of language acquisition, new developments in language pedagogy, curriculum design and planning, instructional technology applicable to classroom teaching. In addition, the participants will be guided to develop the most appropriate approaches in teaching planning, material developing, courseware designing, and apply their practical teaching plans and curriculum design to interactive, student-centered, and culturally enriched classroom teaching. The course will be in the form of lectures, group discussions, teaching rehearsal, teaching demonstrations, self critiques, peer evaluation, student evaluation, etc.
