Traditional Chinese Medicine to Fight AIDS Research Center, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing 100700, China Abstract: In this paper, based on the general overview in the development of AIDS, the pathogenesis, and prevention countermeasures, the anti-AIDS herbs and their active ingredients found in recent years through a variety of screening means are briefly summarized. Particularly, for the relative weak, difficult, but promising research fields, such as tannins, polysaccharides, and protein, their structural characteristics and possible mechanism of the action are more in-depth analyzed. Scientific analysis of awareness for AIDS and treatment principles by traditional Chinese medicines have been carried out. The theory of multi-target and the new cocktail principles and strategies for the treatment of AIDS are discussed in detail. Finally, the ways of defeating AIDS are prospectively proposed.
