Chabot College March, 1994 Course Outline for Welding Technology 66 WELDING INSPECTION AND TESTING Catalog Description: 66 - Welding Inspection and Testing 2 units (May be repeated 3 times) Theory and skills in performing inspections and tests using destructive and non-destructive methods. Tensile and hardness testing; dye penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic, ultrasonic, and metallographic inspection. Prerequisite: Welding Technology 65B, Industrial Technology 74. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. list requirements and duties of a welding inspector; 2. interpret non-destructive testing symbols; 3. perform tests for welds, record test data, and write a critique for test results; 4. state procedures for qualifications of welders; 5. explain current NDT systems, stating their limitations and optimum applications; 6. recognize ten or more weld defects and suggest correctional procedures; 7. fabricate own welds according to procedures used in a certified test laboratory.
