FOOD HYGIENE AND FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS PROTOCOL FOR GRAIN AND OILSEEDS INDUSTRY VALUE CHAIN The members of the Grain and Oilseeds Value Chain, as defined later herein, accepted and agreed on the basic principles as set out in this document with regard to the application and adherence to Food Hygiene and Food Safety Standards, and the legislation pertaining thereto, as stated in the document: GENERAL The provision of hygienic and safe food and feed, together with the responsibilities required to provide such food and feed, is an obvious prerequisite. Prerequisite programmes (PRP’s) are deemed to be a necessity in providing hygienic and safe food. HACCP systems are deemed to be preferable, but are not regarded as a necessity in providing hygienic and safe food. The same standards should apply to all grain and oilseeds, whether it is intended for the domestic market or for export. The same standards and rules should apply to all grain and oilseeds, irrespective of the production method or storage facility used. The specific needs and requirements of clients/customers have to be taken into consideration and adhered to, in addition to the legislated requirements, irrespective whether the grain or oilseeds are intended for the domestic market or for export. Sufficient accredited laboratories and audit organisations should be available in order to exercise proper control and audits for the provision of hygienic and safe food and feed.
