Project Tracking and Evaluation Part I – Module Content Title Slide [Slide 1] This module presents a rationale and method for measuring or tracking the performance of projects and programs, and discusses it in the context of program evaluation. Our primary audience for this module are all professionals involved in planning, managing or evaluating roles in their organizations, or engaged in research and development activities. In particular, this might interest professionals such as technology and product developers, industry researchers and resource providers for projects. Objective [Slide 2] Quite often when we think of measuring the performance of a project, it conjures up two erroneous assumptions in our minds about this job. First, it is easy for us to make the immediate connection with evaluation, but rarely do we think of it also as a research activity; and yet, research is a big component of evaluation itself. Second, we assume that this activity will or should take place at the end of the project and yet it is so important to start the measurement during or even before the project. It is crucial to know how the project is performing before one waits to find out how the project did perform or worse still, that it did perform poorly. In fact, one can actually assure that the project will perform the way it should by monitoring its processes. In this module therefore, we attempt to present measurement of project’s performance not only as it relates to evaluation and research, but to project monitoring as well. We hope that you will be able to take away with you the following skills and knowledge. Basic Concepts [Slide 3] As part of our instructional strategy, we will divide this workshop into two sessions.
