He needed a man to help him but most people didn’t like to work there. They were afraid of the terrible strong winds. Finally, a short, thin man came to the farmer. “Are you a good worker?” the farmer asked him. “Well, I can sleep when a strong wind is rushing outside,” answered the little man. Although he didn’t quite understand his words, the farmer let him stay on the farm. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from morning to evening, and the farmer was very glad. Then one night the wind came very strongly from the sea. Jumping out of the bed, the farmer took a lantern and rushed next door to the little man’s sleeping place. He shook the little man and cried, “Get up! A strong wind is coming! Tie things down before the wind takes them away!” The little man turned over in bed and said, “No, sir. I told you, I can sleep when a strong wind is rushing outside.” The farmer was so angry that he wanted to drive the man away at once. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his surprise, he discovered that all the cows and chickens had been carefully kept in the animals’ house, and all the doors were locked. Everything was tied down. Nothing could be taken away. The farmer then understood what the little man meant, so he returned to his bed to sleep also while the wind was rushing outside. 21. What did the farmer need? A. A worker. B. A cook. C.
