Expansins are required in a series of physiological developmental processes in higher plants such as seed germination.HereweidentifiedanArabidopsisexpansingeneAtEXPA2thatisexclusivelyexpressedingerminatingseeds andthemutantshowsdelayedgermination,suggestingthatAtEXP2isinvolvedincontrollingseedgermination.Exogenous GAapplicationincreasedtheexpressionlevelofAtEXP2duringseedgermination,whileABAapplicationhadnoeffecton AtEXP2expression.Furthermore,theanalysisofDELLAmutantsshowthatRGL1,RGL2,RGA,GAIareallinvolvedinrepressing AtEXP2expression,andRGL1playsthemostdominantroleincontrollingAtEXP2expression.Instressresponse,exp2mutant showshighersensitivitythanwildtypeinseedgermination,whileoverexpressionlinesofAtEXP2arelesssensitivetosalt stressandosmoticstress,exhibitingenhancedtolerancetostresstreatment.Collectively,ourresultssuggestthatAtEXP2is involvedintheGA-mediatedseedgerminationandconferssaltstressandosmoticstresstoleranceinArabidopsis.
