Abstract
Background:Totrainchunkersinrecognizingnounphrasesandverbphrasesinbiomedicaltext,anannotated
corpusisrequired.Thecreationofgoldstandardcorpora(GSCs),however,isexpensiveandtime-consuming.GSCs
thereforetendtobesmallandtofocusonspecificsubdomains,whichlimitstheirusefulness.Weinvestigatedthe
useofasilverstandardcorpus(SSC)thatisautomaticallygeneratedbycombiningtheoutputsofmultiple
