Diagnostic value of five tumor markers in malignant pleural effusions [Abstract] Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of cancer embryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 199(CA199), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA21-1) and carbohydrate antigen 153 (CA153) in malignant pleural effusions. Methods: Research subjects (malignant group) were continuously collected 132 cases with malignant pleural effusion and 111 cases with matched serum in Beijing Cancer hospital from December 2013 to August 2014, and the control group (benign group) were continuously collected 43 cases with benign pleural effusion and 28 cases with matched serum in Peking University First hospital at the same time; five tumor markers were tested by electrochemical luminescence technique. Selecting the corresponding concentrations when the diagnostic specificities were 100% of tumor markers as cutoff values (all patients with benign effusions had levels below this cutoff), and evaluating single and joint diagnosis sensitivities. Results: Five tumor markers in malignant pleural effusions were significantly higher than the benign pleural effusions.
