2020 Vision of Canada’s Oceans Dialogue December 5-6, 2013 Vancouver, BC Hosted by the Canadian Healthy Oceans Network in Partnership with the Centre for Coastal Science and Management, Simon Fraser University Objective How can Canada improve on ensuring sustainable oceans? Historically, Canada has developed ambi- tious objectives for sustainable oceans but like many nations we struggle to actually attain those goals. The Canada 2020 Vision Oceans Dialogue will bring together ~80 major stakeholders in Canada’s oceans (including government agencies) in an invitational two-day dialogue to address how science can inform policy towards sustainable oceans in the context of predicted changes associated with human activities. Through presentations, panel discussions and open dialogue, we will build a roadmap that identifies mechanisms to bring policy and science together, considering past successes at home and internationally in order to maintain productive oceans that provide maximum benefits to Canadians.
