Potentialbloodpressure-(BP-)loweringmechanismsoftheDASHdietarypatternweremeasuredin20unmedicatedhypertensive

adultsinacontrolledfeedingstudy.Atscreening,participantsaveraged44.3± 7.8years,BMI33.9± 6.6Kg/m ,andBP144.2±
9.38/88.5± 6.03mmHg.Allconsumedacontroldietforoneweek,thenwererandomizedtocontrolorDASHforanothertwo
weeks(weekoneandtwo).WithDASH,butnotcontrols,SBPfellby10.65±12.89(P=0.023)and9.60±11.23(P=0.039)mmHg
andDBPby5.95± 8.01(P=0.069)and8.60± 9.13mmHg(P=0.011)attheendofweekoneandtwo,respectively.Univariate
regressionsshowedthatchangesinurinary sodium/potassiumratio(β = 1.99)andplasmareninactivity(β = ?15.78)and
percentchangeinplasmanitriteafterhyperemiawereassociatedwithSBPchangesatweekone(allP 0.05).Plasmanitrite
