Background.Hypertensionandexcessbodyweightareimportantriskfactorsforendothelialdysfunction.Recentevidencesuggests thathigh-polyphenoldarkchocolateimprovesendothelialfunctionandlowersbloodpressure.Thisstudyaimedtoevaluatethe associationofchocolate70%cocoaintakewithmetabolicpro?le,oxidativestress,in?ammation,bloodpressure,andendothelial functioninstage1hypertensiveswithexcessbodyweight.Methods.Interventionclinicaltrialincludes22stage1hypertensives withoutpreviousantihypertensivetreatment,aged18to60yearsandpresentsabodymassindexbetween25.0and34.9kg/m .All 2 participantswereinstructedtoconsume50gofchocolate70%cocoa/day(2135mgpolyphenols)for4weeks.Endothelialfunction wasevaluatedbyperipheral artery tonometry usingEndo-PAT2000(ItamarMedical). Results.Twentyparticipants(10men) completedthestudy.Comparisonofpre-postinterventionrevealedthat(1)therewerenosigni?cantchangesinant
