Weconsider theenveloping semigroup ofa?owgenerated bytheactionofasemi-
topological semigroup onanyofitssemigroup compacti?cations andexplore the
possibility ofitsbeingoneoftheknownsemigroup compacti?cations again.Inthis
way,weintroduce thenotion ofE-algebra, andshow thatthisnotion isclosely re-
latedtothereductivity ofthesemigroup compacti?cation involved. Moreover, the
structure ofthe universal E?-compacti?cation isalso given.
