Flowwaveformsandtheirfrequencycomposition,transferfunctionsfrombloodtoCSFflowsandcross-correlationswere analyzed.ThemagnitudesofthefrequencycomponentsofCSFflowintheaqueductdiffersignificantlybetweenthetwo agegroups,asdothefrequencycomponentsofthecervicalspinalCSFandthearterialflows.Themales’aqueductalCSF stroke volumes and average flow rates are significantly higher than those of the females. Transfer functions and cross- correlationsbetweenarterialbloodandCSFflowrevealsignificantage-dependenceofphase-shiftbetweenthese,asdothe waveformsofarterialblood,aswellascervical-spinalandaqueductalCSFflows.Thesefindingsaccentuatetheneedforage- andsex-matchedcontrolgroupsfortheevaluationofcerebralpathologiessuchashydrocephalus.
