AimoftheStudy:Antibodiestomycobacteria,nervecomponentsandserumcytokineweremeasuredaspotentialmarkers fortheirpossibleassociationwithreactionsandNFI. PatientsandMethods:303newlydiagnosedleprosypatientsfromtwocentresinNorthIndiawereenrolled.Antibodiesto PGL-1,LAM(IgG1andIgG3),ceramide,S100andTNFalevelsweremeasuredusingELISAtechniques. Results: S-100, PGL IgG and IgM antibody levels were lowest in patients with BT leprosy and highest in patients with lepromatousleprosy.LAMIgG1andLAMIgG3antibodylevelswerehighestinpatientswithBLleprosy.Ceramideantibody levelswerenotcorrelatedwithtypeofleprosy.LevelsofalltheantibodiestestedandTNFawerelowestinpatientswith only skin reaction. PGL IgM antibody levels were elevated in patients with skin reactions and NFI. Old sensory NFI is associatedwithsignificantelevationofPGLIgG,LAMIgGandS100antibodylevels. Conclusion:Theseresultsrevealthattheantibodyresponsetomycobacterialantigens,nerveantigensandcytokinesarein adynamicfluxandcouldcollectivelycontributetoNFIinleprosy.
