Methodology/Principal Findings: Lesions found in the livers of ground squirrels, Spermophilus dauricus/alashanicus, trappedinNingxiaHuiAutonomousRegion,anareainChinaco-endemicforbothE.granulosusandE.multilocularis ,were subjectedtomoleculargenotypingforEchinococcusspp.DNA.OneofthelesionswasshowntobecausedbyE.granulosus andsubsequentlybyhistologytocontainviableprotoscoleces. Conclusions/Significance:ThisisthefirstreportofanaturalinfectionofthegroundsquirrelwithE.granulosus.Thisdoes notprovidedefinitiveproofofacycle involvinggroundsquirrels anddogsorfoxes,butitisclearthatthereisactive E. granulosustransmissionoccurringinthisarea,despitearecentpastdeclineinthedogpopulationinsouthernNingxia.
