Methods:FromSeptember2007untilJune2009,GPsandtheirpalliativecarepatientswithcancerparticipatedina studytoevaluatepalliativecoursesforGPsofferedbyaregionalpalliativecareinitiative(PAMINO).Foraperiodof sixmonthsatmostoruntildeath,patientswereaskedmonthlytojudgetheirqualityoflifeontheQualityofLife QuestionnaireCore15Palliative(QLQ-C15-PAL)oftheEuropeanOrganizationforResearchandTreatmentofCancer (EORTC)andonthePalliativeCareOutcomeScale(POS).The‘Overallqualityoflife’scaleoftheQLQ-C15-PALtakes valuesbetween0and100withhighervaluesindicatingahigherqualityoflife.ThePOSsumscaletakesvalues between0and40withhighervaluesindicatingworsecareoutcomes.PatientscaredforbyPAMINO-trainedGPs andpatientscaredforbyotherGPs(controlgroup)arecomparedusingt-testsfordifferencesingroupmeans. Results:Onehundredpatientsparticipatedinthestudy;96patientsfilledoutthequestionnairesatleastonce.On theQLQ-C15-PAL,meanqualityoflifeofthepatientgroupsofPAMINO-trainedandotherGPswere37.7(SD=25.5) and39.4(SD=26.3)(p=.76),respectively.OnthePOS,respectivemeanvaluesof13.6(SD=5.8)and12.0(SD=6.5) (p=.26)weregiven.PatientscaredforbyaPAMINO-trainedGPdidnotreportbetterqualityoflifeandcare outcomesthanpatientscaredforbyothergeneralpractitioners. Conclusions:PatientscaredforbyPAMINO-trainedandotherGPsinourstudydidnotreportdifferencesinquality oflife.Qualityoflifeandcareoutcomesofallpatientswerebetterthanofpalliativepatientsininstit
