Methods:Primarycarepatientsaged50to74yearseligibleforcolorectalcancerscreeningarerandomizedto receiveamailedstoolbloodtestkittocompleteathome(Control)ortothecontrolconditionplusanin-office bloodtestcalledGERAthatincludesassessmentofredbloodcellfolateandDNA-testingfortwoMTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolatereductase)singlenucleotidepolymorphisms(SNPs)(Intervention).Forthepresentstudy, baselinesurveydataareexaminedinparticipantsrandomizedtotheIntervention. Results:Thefirst351interventionparticipants(161AfricanAmerican/190white)wereidentified.Overall,249 (70.9%)completedGERAtesting.PredictorsofGERAuptakeincludedrace(AfricanAmericanrace,oddsratio(OR) 0.51(0.29to0.87)),andbeingmoreknowledgeableaboutGERAandcolorectalcancerscreening(OR1.09(1.01to 1.18)).Beingmarried(OR1.81(1.09to3.00))wasalsosignificantinthemultivariablemodel. Conclusions:ParticipantuptakeofGERAtestingwashigh.GERAuptakevaried,however,accordingtosocio- demographicbackgroundandknowledge.
