We show that regardless of the age of the donor cells, the iPS produced are fully reprogrammed into a pluripotentstatethatisundistinguishablefromthatofhESCsbylowandhigh-throughputexpressionanddetailedanalysis ofglobinexpressionpatternsbyHPLC.ThissuggeststhatreprogrammingwiththefouroriginalYamanaka pluripotency factorsleads tocomplete erasure ofallfunctionally importantepigenetic marksassociated witherythroid differentiation regardlessoftheageorthetissuetypeofthedonorcells,atleastasdetectedintheseassays.Theabilitytoproducelarge numberoferythroidcellswithembryonicandfetal-likecharacteristicsislikelytohavemanytranslationalapplications.
