The Design and Analysis of a Class Based on Communicative Language eaching   Abstract: Communicative language teaching(CLT) has been accepted and applied in Chinese language teaching context about 20 years. In fact, there is a heated debate and a lack of class design on CLT. Based on the theories of CLT, this paper designs and analyzes a writing class on CLT from the aspects of teaching objectives, teaching procedures and after-class reflections. The results provide valuable suggestion on the application of CLT in writing class.   Key words: Communicative language teaching; design; analysis      Ⅰ.Teaching plan   1. Teaching contents: letter writing   2. Description of students: Non-English majors; sophomore   3. Teaching objectives:   4. Teaching aids: letter samples, blackboard, textbook, tape recorder, students’ name list, and blank paper.   5. Teaching time: 8:10-9:00 am, Thursday, December 9, 2007   6. Teaching place: Room 213, the 3rd teaching building, Xi’an International University.   7. Teaching procedure:   Step 1.Pre-writing discussion ( 5 mins )   a) Have you ever written letters before? And how often you write letters?   b) What is the purpose you write letters in daily life? And to whom you can write letters? Give some examples.   c) Are there any differences and similarities between Chinese letter writing and English one? Just predict.   Step 2. Ask students to read the letter samples in the textbook, and try to conclude the differences and similarities between English letter writing and Chinese one.(8 mins)   a) Individual work:   Read the samples in detail and try to understand every part included in an English letter.   b) Group work:   Discuss with the group members and try to conclude all the findings   c) The teacher can provide guidelines for students to follow in concluding the differences if students have some difficulties.   d) Ask several groups to present their conclusion and findings by filling the table, and the who
