InvestigacionesCientíficasy Técnicas.SanMigueldeTucumán, Argentina Methods:Thesemethodsdeterminetheamountofinformationthataprocessing techniqueisabletoextractfromEMGsignals.Theprocessingtechniquesevaluated withthesemethodswere:absolutemeanvalue(AMV),RMSvalues,variancevalues (VAR)anddifferenceabsolutemeanvalue(DAMV).EMGsignalsfromthemiddle deltoidduringabductionandadductionmovementofthearminthescapularplane wasregistered,forstaticanddynamiccontractions.Theoptimalwindowlength (segmentation),abductionandadductionmovementsandinter-electrodedistance werealsoanalyzed. Results:Usingtheoptimalsegmentation(200msand300msinstaticanddynamic contractions,respectively)thebestprocessingtechniqueswere:RMS,AMVandVAR instaticcontractions,andonlytheRMSindynamiccontractions.UsingtheRMSof EMGsignal,variationsintheamountofinformationbetweentheabductionand adductionmovementswereobserved. Conclusions:Althoughtheevaluationmethodsproposedherewereappliedto standardprocessingtechniques,thesemethodscanalsobeconsideredas alternativestoolstoevaluatenewprocessingtechniquesindifferentareasof electrophysiology.
