The words thus supplied must be indispensable. In other words, a translator is not supposed to add any meaning to the original work. 增词与减词是指英译汉过程中译文中词量增补或删减的现象。一篇好的译文，与原文相比，内容有所增加。这些所增加的内容，可能是一个词、一个短语，甚至是一个句子。这些增加的内容叫做翻译中的增词，用这种方法翻译，叫做增词法。减词（删译、省译）是指翻译中省略原文中某些词，以使译文简洁、严谨。所减去的词，在英语中是必不可少的，但在汉语中却很少用或根本不用。需要省略的词类大多只起语法作用，与语义无关，译文中省去一些词可使译文简洁有力，以符合汉语的表达习惯。 由于英汉两种
