There are 3 typical ways to apply for a job or course.  CV and covering letter ( see also our cover letter guide)  Application form – usually an online form (see our application form guide)  A combination of any of the above The employer will usually be clear about which method they wish you to use – this information is usually on the advertisement or further details. Many jobs are advertised (but not all). Research the best places to find out about the type of jobs you are interested in. The needs of employers vary. In most cases you can find out the employer’s requirements from looking at the job advert which will typically outline:  The type of person sought (skills required/desired)  Experience required/desired  Key work activities  A description of the organisation (what they do, their key values and who their main clients are). What do you have to offer - where is the evidence? Once you have identified the employer’s requirements you need to provide clear evidence that you have some or all of the skills, experience and knowledge they are looking for.
