Teaching procedure: 1.Warming –up activities--- listen to a short passage and then answer the corresponding questions. 4.A discussion about the western festivals and their opinions 2.A detailed explanation of some words and phrases 3. Then introduce these festivals briefly one by one. The foreign festivals we are familiar with include: Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, April Fools’ Day, Carnival Festival (狂欢节), Easter (复活节), Thanksgiving Day, and All Saints Day (万圣节), of which Christmas is the most important and similar to the Chinese Spring Festival. 2..Do you know why the Chinese students become more and more interested in the foreign festivals ? Much to our surprise, however, the Chinese students have been showing more and more enthusiasm for such festivals as Valentine’s Day, April Fools’ Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, popular in the West. There may be as many reasons for students to grow fonder of these foreign festivals, but, on the whole, three major factors should call for our concern.
