Book3 Unit Seven Teaching Aims and Requirements: 1) Get the students familiar with some useful expressions about language of flowers. 2) Explain some grammatical points and useful expressions to help the students catch idiomatic usage of some new word and enrich their vocabulary. 3) Analyze the structure of the text to help the students improve their reading comprehension. 4) Do exercises to check what they have learnt in class. Teaching procedure: 1.Warming –up activities--- listen to a short passage and then answer the corresponding questions. 4.A discussion about the western festivals and their opinions 2.A detailed explanation of some words and phrases 3. Paraphrase the complicated sentences, analyze the structure and introduce the employed writing techniques 4.A summary of the test: first summary up all the useful expressions mentioned in the text, then ask students to retell the passage by using their own words. 5.Do some exercises Teaching Methods and Time Arrangement: The students-centered method and discussion centered method; 7 periods of time Section A A Rose Is a Rose Part One: (Lead in) A topic to be discussed 1..What festivals in the Western world are you familiar with? Then introduce these festivals briefly one by one. The foreign festivals we are familiar with include: Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, April Fools’ Day, Carnival Festival (狂欢节), Easter (复活节), Thanksgiving Day, and All Saints Day (万圣节), of which Christmas is the most important and similar to the Chinese Spring Festival. 2..Do you know why the Chinese students become more and more interested in the foreign festivals ? Much to our surprise, however, the Chinese students have been showing more and more enthusiasm for such festivals as Valentine’s Day, April Fools’ Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, popular in the West. There may be as many reasons for students to grow fonder of these foreign festivals, but, on the whole, three major factors should call for our concern.
