PURPOSE These written Welding Cutting Procedures establish guidelines to be followed whenever any of our employees work with welding and cutting equipment at this company. The procedures here establish uniform requirements designed to ensure that welding and cutting safety training, operation, and maintenance practices are communicated to and understood by the affected employees. These requirements also are designed to ensure that procedures are in place to safeguard the health and safety of all employees. It is our intent to comply with the requirements of 29 CFR 1926.350 through .354. These regulations have requirements for welding and cutting operations. DEFINITIONS Approved Equipment An apparatus or component of a system and any associated safety equipment used for welding, cutting or brazing that has been approved by management for the intended purpose Brazing A process for joining similar or dissimilar metals using a filler metal that typically include a base of copper combined with silver, nickel, usually using an open flame Cutting The act of shearing, slicing or shaping metal, usually using powered tools that produce hot edge or fragment, or cutting torches Fire Watch A person specifically assigned to observe ongoing hot work in order to watch out for and react to created hazards Grinding The act of sharpening, shaping, or removing metal via abrasion, after using hand held power tools Hand Shield Device used in arc welding to protect the face and neck. It is equipped with a filter glass lens and is designed to be held by hand. Helmet Device used in arc welding to protect the face and neck.
