METHODS: The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the C41657T and G4234C in the XRCC 2 gene were genotyped by PCRRFLP analysis in 226 nonsmall cell lung cancer patients and 300 healthy controls. RESULTS: There was XRCC 2 gene C41657T and G4234C polymorphism in north Chinese Han population. The genotype and allelotype distributions of the XRCC 2 C41657T and G4234C SNPs in the nonsmall cell lung cancer patients were not significantly different from those of the controls (all P0.05). When the two XRCC 2 SNPs were combined, the haplotype distribution in the nonsmall cell lung cancer patients was also not significantly different from that of the controls (P0.05). But stratification analysis according to histological types and smoking status showed that, compared with C/C genotype, the combination of C/T and T/T genotypes of XRCC 2 C41657T increased the risk of developing nonsmall cell lung cancer (OR: 1.85, 95% CI: 1.02-3.36 ) and that of adenosquamous carcinoma (OR: 2.45, 95% CI=1.05-5.72) in nonsmokers.
