Robert Burns(1759-1796) —— by 熊瑶瑶 Brief Introduction of Burns Classification of Burns Poems Signature: Scotland‘s favorite son, the Ploughman Poet, was a Scottish poet and a lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, and is celebrated worldwide. Son of a Scottish peasant, Burns shared during his early years the hard-working and poor life of his class. His father arranged with other farmers to have his children taught by a well-educated young man. He received a formal education in English, learning by heart English poetry and learning to write an elegant English prose. At the age of fifteen, he fell in love and shortly thereafter he wrote his first poem. As a young man, Burns pursued both love and poetry with uncommon zeal. In 1785, he fathered the first of his fourteen children. In 1786 he published a book of his poems: Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect.（ 主要用苏格兰方言写的诗） This collection was an immediate success and Burns was celebrated throughout England and Scotland as a great peasant-poet. His increasingly radical political views influenced many of the phenomenal number of poems, songs and letters he continued to pen, including such famous works as A Mans A Man For A That .（不管那一套） Burns spent the final twelve years of his life editing and imitating traditional folk songs . He traveled around Scotland picking up local traditions and local work songs. Many songs he never claimed as his own but presented as old songs he had discovered. He died on 21 July 1796 aged just 37 and was buried with full civil and military honours on the very day his son Maxwell was born.
