Using the standardized abbreviation is an essential part of correct and validated citation practice. The following print and electronic resources can be used to verify the proper name of a journal or other serial title. They are esp ecially useful when only partial information about a journal, e.g. abbreviated or partial title, publisher, or ISSN number, is known. DEFINITIONS SERIAL : Is defined by the Library of Congress National Serials Data Program as Print or non-print publications issued in parts, usually bearing issue numbers and/or dates, and expected to continue indefinitely. Serials include: o magazines, o journals, o newspapers, o annuals, o memoirs, o proceedings, o transactions of societies, o monographic series. ISSN : International Standard Serial Number: An unique eight digit number assigned to a journal/serial in the format xxxx-xxxx.
