Both wer e formed from metamorphosed oceanic crust, the glaucophane schist is especially important rock type indicating the plate tectonic evolution . The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics and petrogenesis of glaucophane schists. The field investigation and p etrogr aphic ob servation s reveal three kinds of amphiboles in glaucophane schists and associated rocks: (1) compositional zoning porphyroblast which reflects a metamorphic environment changed from amphibolite fa cie s t o g l au c op h an e sch i st fa cie s ; (2) C a -amp h ib ole p orphyroblast wh ich implies a retrogr ade met amorph ism ; and (3) non-zoning porphyroblast in green schists. Results of geothermobarometer study show that under similar pressure of around 11KBar, the temp erature of formation at garnet- 470 glaucophane schists was over 470. The P-T path of epidote- amphibole-quartz schists calculated by Gibbs method shows at an increasing temperature and pressure. Resu lt s of all
