Background Information;in the 19th century a few brief concepts in the form of English letters turned out to indicate clearly seller’s and buyer’s obligations as to cost, risks and documents, etc. so that parties to the same deal can share the same basis of trade practices. A food exporter based at Dalian watched the carrier load the company’s consignment of 1,000 M/T soybean on board a ship. The shipment was priced FOB Dalian.
Shortly after the loading, the captain was reported a fire. He instructed that the carbon dioxide fire extinguisher be used to put out the fire but this failed to operate. Eventually the fire was brought under control by the hydrant system. However, about 700 M/T soybean was damaged.

Trade term is considered to be the basis of international trade. This chapter gives a detailed explanation on Incoterms 2000 and its application in cargo export and import, especially FOB, CIF and CFR.
2.1 The definition of Trade Terms(贸易术语的定义):
The trade terms refer to using a brief English concept or abbreviation to indicate the formation of the unit price and determine the responsibilities, expenses and risks borne by two parties as well as the time of the passing of the property in the goods.
