Charlotte Whitehead,Philadelphia,Montreal and Winnipeg, the Manitoba Legislature。 Charlotte refused to leave her patients to spend time studying what she already knew.→Charlotte refused to study what she already knew because her patients needed her. 1、Charlotte Whitehead was born in England in 1843, and moved to Montreal, Canada at the age five with her family. While nursing her ill elder sister through the years, Charlotte discovered she had an interest in medicine. At 18 she married and started a family. Several years later, Charlotte said she wanted to be a doctor. Her husband supported her decision. 2、Unluckily, Canadian medical schools did not accept women students at the time. As a result, Charlotte went to the United States to study medicine at the Women’s Medical College in Philadelphia. It took her five years to earn her medical degree. 3、After graduation, Charlotte returned to Montreal and set up a private clinic. Three years later, she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and there she was once again a busy doctor. Many of her patients were from the nearby timber(林场 )and railway camps(铁路营)。 Charlotte found herself operating on damaged limbs(四肢) and setting broken bones, in addition to delivering all the new-born babies in the area. 4、 But Charlotte had been practicing
