AbstractBrowneared-pheasantCrnssoptilonmantchuricum isendemictoChina,andmainlyoccursinLuliangMoun-
rainsofShanxi,XiaowutaiofHebeiandHuanglongofShasnxi.ReintroductionofBrowncaredpheasantwascarriedout
fromApriltoDecemberin2000.AccordingtothecriterionsofreleasesiteselectioninGuidelinesforReintroductionsofI-
UCN.andhabitatselectionofBrownearedpheasant,KuantanforestryinWutaishanMountainsofShanxiProvincewas
selectedasthereleasesite.Ofthe8releasedindividuals,5wildindividualswerecapturedinwinterinLuysshanNature
ReserveofShanxiProvince,and3wereoflsprjngsofcaptiverearedindividuals.Transmitterswereattachedwhenthe8
individualswerereleased.Overall,6individualssurvivedforatleast1month,andthelongesttimeforsurvivalwas155
days,exceptthatonewasconfirmedashavingbeenkilledbyaraptorontheseconddayandonewaslostontheeighth
dayafterrelease.Allmovedawayfromthereleasesiteafterreleaseandestablishedstablehomerangesindifferentsitesof
ter10days,respectively.InearlyMay,theindividualsagaindispersedtoestablishnewhomeranges.Thewanderingdis
