2008 24 11 Chin J M ed Imaging T echnol, 2008, Vol 24, No 11 1729 MSCT evaluation of facial nerve canal ZH A N G Yuan, X IA N J un-f ang * , CH EN Guang-l i, YA N G Ben-tao, CH EN Qing-hua, WA N G Zhen-chang (D ep a tment of Rad iology , Beij ing Tong en H osp ital Af f iliated to the Cap ital Unive sity of M edical Sciences , Beij ing 100730, China) [Abstract] ObjectiveT o investigate multislice CT ( MSCT) findings of intratemporal facial nerve canal with multiplanar reconstruction ( MP ) and curved-planar reconstruction (CP ) Methods MSCT was performed in 70 patients with parana- sal sinusitis without abnormality in temporal bone including 50 adults and 20 children Original images were transferred to workstation for image processing According to the course of intratemporal facial nerve canal, M P and CP images were acquired Facial nerve canal and relation with adjacent structures were measured in different MP and CP images The ap- pearances of facial nerve canal in different images and age groups were compared ResultsT he length of tympanic segment on CP image was longer than that on MP image, and its width on MP imagewas wider than that on CP image (P 005)However, there was no significant difference in the length and width of labyrinthine and mastoid segment between MP and CP images ( P 005) The CP images acquired in the coronal plane showed the first genu exactly, while the CP images acquired in the axial plane showed the second genu exactly T he dehiscent incidence of the first genu was 214% on both M P and CP images, and 329%, 314% of the tympanic segment on M P and CP images, respectively (P 005) One ear with the bifurcate of the tympanic segment was shown on M P image, but missed on C
