The application and clinical effect of temperature-controlled
radiofrequency ablation in the adults with obstructive sleep apnea
hypopnea syndrome
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect and clinical value evaluation of
temperature-controlled radiofrequency ablation in the adults with
obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).
Methods: The medical records of 52 patients who underwent
temperature-controlled radiofrequency ablation between January 2010 and
January 2012 were assessed (20 moderate cases, 32 severe cases). We
operated on the patients in the different upper airway plane such as
inferior turbinate, soft palate, uvula, tonsils, base of the tongue and
the tongue and so on. The patients were followed up for one year, who
reviewed polysomnography (PSG) . We evaluate the efficacy of surgery
through the sleep apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and lowest oxygen saturation
(LSaO) before and after treatment.
2
Results: Average AHI before and after surgery was 46.8 ± 23.5 and 24.1
±19.7. The average LSaO2 value was 68.5 ±20.2 and 79.1 ±15.5. The
postoperative AHI and LsaO2 were significantly improved (P 0.05). In the
52 patients, 7 cases (13.5%) were cured, 28 cases were significant effect
(53.8%), 14 cases were effective (26.9%) and 3 cases were invalid
(5.8%).The total effective rate amount to 94.2%.
Conclusion: The temperature-controlled radiofrequency ablation in the
adults with OSAHS is simple, safety, minimally invasive treatment and pain
small, fast recovery. Moreover it can be repeated treatment and was easy
to accept for patients. Temperature-controlled radiofrequency ablation
can be carried out on in the different upper airway plane, which can
5
significantly improve the quality of patients life. This surgery
