Aviation Baggage Screening Strategies - 哈尔滨理工

Aviation Baggage Screening Strategies Restatement of the Problem New laws will mandate 100% screening of all checked bags throughout the United States by EDSs which use CT technology to scan checked bags. The first problem is to determine the number of EDSs required at two of the largest Airports A B in the Midwest Region of the United States and to prepare a short position paper that describes the security-related objectives of the airlines and the constraints that the airlines must work within for the sets of flights departing from these airports. Considering the delay of the screening, the airport managers request developing a model that can help the airlines determine how to schedule the departure of different types of flights within the peak hour. Based on the analysis, we need to make some recommendations to the Director of Airport Security for the Midwest Region (Mr. Sheldon) and the airlines and write a memo explaining how our models can be adapted to all 193 airports in the region. The next problem is to modify the EDS models to incorporate the use of ETD and determine how many ETDs are needed for Airports A B and if the schedules need to be changed. We also need to write a memo to the Directors of Homeland Security and TSA with a technical analysis of this enhanced screening policy. The last problem is to use the EDS/ETD model to examine the possible effect of changes in the device technology, cost, accuracy, speed, and operational reliability and add the recommendation to the memo prepared in Task 7 designated in the problem. Assumptions In this problem, we only focus on the departures of the planes, not considering the arrivals. A worker who is paid $ 5.75 an hour operates one device. All devices work well with the same efficiency. If the number of EDSs is adequate enough in a peak hour, it is also adequate enough in other hours. All the bags are small enough in size that can be accommodated in an EDS. The passenger flow is considered a random vari
