This paper summarizes the Coleopteran COI gene sequence and the application of DNA barcoding in species ’identification ，discovery of cryptic and new species and phylogenetic analysis of the Coleoptera. Progress in DNA barcode technology and problems in DNA barcode standardization are discussed .
