Horizon II - Test System Overview The Motorola system test set is designed in such a way as to simulate the real-life system.This is achieved by using the Racal 6113 Digital Radio Test Set and a combination of RF, TTY switches, RF hybrid combiners, RF duplexors and RF loads to interface with the system under test at the Air Interface, and directly to the BTS via a TTY link. The 6113 replaces and in effect simulates the operation of the MS on the Air Interface. It also simulates the RXCDR function on the air interface, producing all the required control/signalling messages to control the BTS via the BSC. The system test connection overview is shown in the picture. The system test station is designed to have up to 2 BTS cabinets under test at any one time. In addition to this each BTS under test can have more than one RF path under test due to the type of configuration of the cabinet, i.e. more than one radio, each radio under test has two receive ports, the BTS may be a micro BTS. To accommodate the need to test different paths the transmit and receive ports of the 6113 requires to be switched between the BTS’s under test ( max. 2 ) and between the possible RF paths within a BTS under test. ? Horizon II - Rx Test Direction The 6113 is the heart of the RF test system. It emulates a mobile station for sending and receiving signals round the test system loop and also analyses the responses. The 6113 has many functions that it can carry out, from the sending and receiving of test signals, either as RF or digital to the utility functions of acting as a signal generator or as a power meter for RF. The 6113 can be controlled remotely by a computer using the GPIB interface which allows the computer or software running on the computer to control the 6113s actions. In the RF Test the computer software talks to the 6113 across the GPIB and activates the various tests that the 6113 carries out and the 6113 sends it response back to the computer software which translates
