Stock Stock Stock is a kind of negotiable securities, it represents ownership of holders (stockholders) in a corporation. Issuing stock is a financing approach of corporation, corporation raise capital by issuing stock and use these capital to operate corporation. If corporation makes profits in the course of operation, stockholders will receive interest according to shares held by holders. Stockholders can not recover their principle unless the corporation was bankruptcy, but they can transfer their shares to others. Stock is traded in the stock market Stock market Primary market The primary market is a market to issue stock, in this market, corporation issue stock to stockbroker（股票经纪人）rather than investor. The primary market provide a financing channel for the corporation and provide a investing form for the investors. Secondary market The Secondary market is a market which allow stockholders trade with others, in this market, stockholders can purchase or sell the shares. The Secondary market is a tangible（可触摸的） market, for example, Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Shanghai Stock Exchange in China, and New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market in America. Stock index (股市指数） A stock index or stock market index is a measurement of the value of a section of the stock market. It is computed from the prices of selected stocks (typically a weighted average). It is a tool used by investors and financial managers to describe the market, and to compare the return on specific investments. Stock price indices are used to reflect the overall level of stock prices on the stock market. Referred to as the stock index. It is prepared by the stock exchange or financial services institutions. Stock index indicates the number of changes in stock prices.
