Team#25764 page 1 of 23 Regulation Impacts on Distribution and Discharge Summary The distribution of traffic flow on motorways is an important problem, which directly affects the total capacity of motorway. And the traffic regulation is an important factor. On the consideration that traffic flow behaves quite differently in light traffic and heavy traffic, we develop our model under two circumstances respectively, we build a mathematical model to analyze whether the rule “keep right except to pass” performs well in promoting flow rate or a more free and balanced distribution rule will be better. In section 1, we clarify the overtaking process in a microscopic view. In section 2, we put forward a dynamics model in unimpeded traffic, applying the traffic flow model. We take vehicle overtaking into account from the macro perspective and improve the original model by multiplying modification coefficient. We reckon the value by estimating, compare the condition under two kinds of regulation, in addition. And the result shows discharge in free flow is larger. In section 3, we use the normal distribution to estimate the velocity distribution. And utilize standard velocity deviation, which is proportional to accident rate, and the least squares method to depict the danger level. Conclude that the “keep right” situation is much safer. In section 4, we test and verify the model through some data in German and North America. In section 5, we apply the CA model to describe and simulate the congested traffic. In section 6, we discuss the impact of orientation and modify our model by applying the Coriolis acceleration. In section 7, we imagine the condition after the ITS is widespread.
