* The LDA is the same as a localizer, but off-set from the runway heading. It provides course guidance down to a point from which you can proceed to the airport by visual references. Terrain features generally force the installation of an LDA approach system; In the case of the Rosslyn LDA RWY 19 at Washington Reagan airport it’s the Washington monument sitting off the approach end of the runway. From the Outer Marker they have 3.8 miles to the runway threshold Missed Approach Procedure Localizer Approach Can be flown even though glide slope is working. Higher minimums - MDA Seen also as separate approaches Localizer back course approach: May receive false glide slope signal – Ignore it! Basic VOR receiver is reverse sensing HSI is directional when ILS front course is selected.
