Before we travel to a foreign country , we have some ideas about its people in that country .We look for characteristics in the individuals we meet. But much of the knowledge we think we have of different nationalities exists as stereotypes. Stereotypes and caricatures also exist about occupations or professions.Different businesspeople and managers from different countries have different characteristics.In most people’s opinion, American managers know almost nothing except the business they run and baseball.They think that everyone who is not American wishes he was. Americans are always the best except the play is not fair.
The quarterly dividend is important,quick fix is the way to make it.They organize their companies in many levels.Employees obey orders strictly.
Americans talk fast and loudly. Their products are the biggest, best, newest and fastest in the world. Their contracts are ten times longer than those used elsewhere. British managers are proud of having a broad knowledge and a good social relationship. Class spite and social angst riddle British corporate cultures. Decision making remains the prerogative of top managers. Ideals about decentralized management clash with a lack of faith in the subordinates. British managers are polite, their conversations are humorous but executives of other nationalities may fail to appreciate. They use meetings just to know the basic situlation.They won’t take seriously about something they promise to you. French managers are autocratic and their management style is hierarchical. Many are well educated in the society.
They are brilliant but rude and haughty, jealous and eager to show off their power. Stiff hierarchies discourage informal relations.Information flows downward. Company performance can easily be influenced by order respond. French managers love to talk. Because they like debate,their initial response to proposals is always negative. The discussion at the meetings is just meant
