Margaret Fuller Henry David Thoreau Sarah Margaret Fuller (May 23, 1810 – July 19,1850), was an American journalist, critic, and women’s right advocate associated with the American ?transcendentalism movement. She was the first full-time American female book reviewer in journalism. Biographical Introduction Sarah Margaret Fuller was born on May 23, 1810 to Margaret Crane Fuller and Timothy Fuller in Cambridgeport (now part of Cambridge), Massachusetts. Her father was a prominent lawyer and later a Congressman. In 1840, Fullers friendship with Emerson and her critical essays won her a position as editor of?The Dial. She was the first woman member and the editor of the Transcendentalist Club. From 1844 till 1846 she was the literary critic of the NY Tribune. Her criticism was courageous and high-principled. In 1846, she started her trip to England, Paris and Italy. She met, fell in love with, and married Giovanni Angelo, Marquis Ossoli. They had a child. On a return journey to America, she perished in a shipwreck, within sight of her native land.
