They believe a person’s name will have an effect on his or her career, success or future life, and they think how a person looks just has similar effects. As the writer of Text A states, person names often have some stereotyped association in a paticular origin. Introduction of Chinese Names Formation of Chinese Names In China, most people‘s names have two parts, the family names(or surnames) and the given names. Traditionally, the given name also consists of two parts, bei fen（辈分） and ming zi（名字）; the former usually are used for a certain generation, for example, 长明，长亮，长辉. But nowadays, people are more free to choose their or their children’s names. While there are the commonly seen names with two or three Chinese characters, there are tendency that some parents give their children the name of four Chinese characters, usually including both the father and mother’s family name, which not only show the particularity but also avoid the namesake(同名同姓）. Introduction of Chinese Names Different Names in different life stages One person may have different names in different stages of their lifetime. When they are very young at home, they usually have their milk name or pet names. In school and society they use their school names (formal names). Sometime their friends may give them nicknames.
