Abstract Jane Austen describes four different marriages in Pride and Prejudice: the marriage between Bingley and Jane, Elizabeth and Darcy, Collins and Charlotte, Wickham and Lydia. Though the four heroines live in the same family with the same social background, they make different choices towards the same group of men. Through analyzing the characters of everyone in the four marriages, the context displays that the personality does play an important role in the marriage, we can find people’s views on marriage and matrimonial value orientation in society in that period through analyzing the main characters, and their attitude to some extent. It is hoped that, by studying and analyzing thesis will the practical significance of marriage in this novel can be expressed, this thesis will provide some help to our writing, study of literature theory and those who are working about Jane Austen’s works.
